Sian - Advanced Paediatric Occupational Therapist

I began my career in Occupational Therapy in 2004 and have never looked back. Prior to this, I worked as an auxiliary nurse and for charitable organisations where I supported children and adults, with health and social care needs, to access community activities. I also set up and lead inclusive clubs, provided training on inclusion and recommended resources. I then realised that I was doing basic Occupational Therapy and wanting to know more I commenced my degree whilst working as a rehabilitation assistant.

I wanted to gain a good overall knowledge of different areas of practice and did rotations in Aids and adaptions, Community and in-patient rehabilitation, trauma and orthopaedics, Mental health, Wheelchairs, Paediatrics and learning disability. My favourite work was where I focused on sensory integration and overcoming trauma and I therefore specialised in this.

My interventions focus on, the person, environment, occupation or, a combination of all 3. I consider physical, functional, mental health, sensory, communication, developmental and cognitive skills alongside motivating factors and interests.

I am creative with my interventions and passionate about working in partnership with children/families/carers. I feel privileged to be able to facilitate the achievement of goals, which go towards, enabling each child to be work towards becoming their very best.
