Occupational Therapy

“Occupational therapists work with people who have physical, mental and/or social problems, either from birth or as a result of accident, illness or ageing.

Their aim is to enable people to achieve as much as they can for themselves, so they get the most out of life.

When people cannot do things which are important to them - such as getting dressed, having a shower, going to work, socialising or undertaking a favourite hobby. An occupational therapist can help them............ based on each individual person's needs and lifestyle.”

                                  British Association of Occupational Therapists.

Sometimes a child will need occupational therapy to help them change the way in which they complete an activity,at home or school, by working with them on their ability to coordinate themselves, use their hands, or improve their planning skills. Treatment is usually activity based through play, group or craft activities which are carefully used in the child’s programme.

Occupational therapists also assess specialised equipment and adaptations to the child's home, school or community in order to enable the child’s greater independence.
